HISTORY

The Latin American Radio Magazine started in September 1995.  We were offered a slot in WRCT to produce a weekly radio program, in Spanish, to the Hispanic Community in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  During two years, the program was designed and broadcast by Giovanni Reyes and Martha E. Mantilla with Juan León in the master control room. Throughout these years several friends have helped us to continue producing and improving the program.  Among our enthusiastic volunteers Víctor Córdova, Rocío Fuentes, Carlo Maglioni, Rene Argueta.

The radio program is now broadly known in the community and our audience has increased not only among Hispanics but also among those who want to learn or hear the Spanish or Portuguese language.  Occasionally, the program is broadcast in Portuguese.

 MISSION

- To strengthen the ties among members and friends of the Hispanic Community in Western, Pennsylvania.

- To build bridges between the Hispanic Community and members of other ethnic, social, and cultural groups and organizations.

- To keep the Hispanic Community informed about organizations, institutions and services available to us that deal with issues that affect our lives.  These issues include:

health, housing, immigration, insurance, education, and recreation.

- To contribute to changing some of the stereotypes and misconceptions that other groups have of the Hispanics.

- To address some of the social, economic and political concerns of the Hispanic community living in Pennsylvania.

- To share the views and perspectives of the Hispanics with the rest of the community.

- To highlight and promote the different talents found among Hispanics living in Western Pennsylvania.
